Northumberland County Historical Society

Welcome to the Northumberland County Historical Society website. We are located just off the Courthouse Square of Heathsville, VA in Northumberland County. You are invited to browse our website and learn more about the heritage of those who came before us and to become a part of the future of Northumberland County.

NCHS is handicapped accessible with a ramp at the back of the building which adheres to the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. It was constructed by the Sebra Corporation and is available for use during regular business hours.

The Society exists to preserve the history and genealogy of the people as well as the memory of the historical events of Northumberland County, Virginia. It is also the mission of the Society to educate the public in the rich history and genealogy of Northumberland County, the “Mother County” of the Northern Neck of Virginia.

Reedville Fisherman’s Museum

The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, the cultural arm of the Greater Reedville Association, Inc., is dedicated to supporting educational, cultural, and recreational activities that improve the life of the area residents and visitors.

The Museum’s mission is to acquire, document, interpret and display materials that are historically important to the lower Chesapeake Bay – with special emphasis on activities relating to Reedville fisheries and the lives of the region’s watermen – and to establish educational programs to interpret this maritime heritage.

The Museum is a 501(c)3, non-profit institution that receives funding from a wide variety of businesses, granting agencies, members, visitors, and special events. We host several important fund-raising programs each year so that we can meet our budget expectations.
